Philippines In a State of Calamity

Sun Sep 27, 2009, 3:12 AM
On September 26, 2009, our country was hit by the tropical storm Ketsana (locally known as Bagyong Ondoy). We were not expecting an epic flash flood, in fact, we weren't expecting anything extreme that could have driven us to this condition. Yet, it happened. The Philippine Government has declared a STATE OF CALAMITY in over 20 places in Luzon. More than 70 people are now dead, 20+ are missing and an estimate of a hundred thousand are homeless. Those missing people... some of those are people who my friends and I know.

This is the first time I have ever experienced such a calamity in our country. Although, Bagyong Milenyo was a disaster itself, the impact of Ketsana has far exceeded four decades of any flooding calamities. Water reaching until one-storey houses' rooftops. Although my experience inside my house is nothing compared to those who were/are still waiting for rescuers at the top of their houses, it still added to my desire to let people see that this is what we reap with the things we have done. We have to prevent this rather than thinking of what we can do after the danger has passed.

I'm not able to personally offer any help to the people who are suffering from Ketsana or in general, so all I do is just pray and try my best to let other people realize that there are those who really need our help. May it be little or not. So please, if you can (and I know you have the ability to) please pray for our fellow countrymen.

I wish to see people happy, and I'm sure that whoever is reading this wishes for that too... even if it's a bit of happiness, I wish I can offer that to the people around me. So, pray with me and let's do something about it.

Thank you to all my friends, watchers, acquaintances, teachers and everybody out there who I met... :)

AGREE!!!!!!!
if only people realize they're mistakes instead of blaming others, then they would see that it's their own fault why they are suffering such calamity :(

pray! pray for everyone... but still, don't forget to thank God for what we have now :)

hahaha this could be written in another journal huh? XDDD

God bless! ^^

I hope they open their eyes to the harsh possibilities that we might encounter in the near future. This is just the beginning. Rather, it's nothing compared to what will happen if we don't take action now. I'm glad the the UN is finally realizing the importance of global climate change, and they are trying their best to support the prevention of an armageddon.

Haaaaay~~ Nee-san... let's try to make a difference! XDDD

God bless and love you! :iconnewglomp:

I've been heavy lifting and sorting the whole day, our village church and my old school needed help with all the donations they got and a lot of kids around the village came and helped.

Should be nice to know that there are people willing to take action when something like this struck our country, hmm?
:iconsakuratrc:
I'll pray for your country and for you and all the people sorround you to be better, I havent go through something like this but I imagine you hard it is, I send you a great hug hoping this doesnt ocurred again. Kiss and hugs

It's very nice to see people becoming united in times of crises. Though, for a certain part, it is on this times you see that unity only.

I hope you're safe and doing well. I'm worried for our other friends and relatives, but most of all for the people who have nothing and nowhere to go. Though, I'm sure, our relief goods will help them, I pray that they are well taken care of by the aids.

I actually wish to volunteer, but... under circumstances, I cannot. That's why... the most I can do right now is to keep praying for them, and try to spread the news that we need help. It's a frustrating thing to know you are here inside your home when there are people out there who are in dire need of what we have. So, sometimes, even now, I feel helpless knowing I can't do more than this. *hugs tightly* I'm envious that you can do that for your village church.

I should scourge around my closet for the clothes I don't need. Haha! :) YEAH!

Thank you very much for the prayers. I wish you wouldn't need to go through such a thing nor to experience it. Hugs are precious, they make me smile and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Hahaha! *blush* So thank you, and I hope you're doing well and are safe within and outside the confines of your home. :)
